Welcome

The University for Peace, UPEACE is a pioneering institution of higher education devoted to the study of peace. Established by UN General Assembly Resolution 35/55 in 1980, UPEACE has been cultivating a global network of leaders dedicated to peacebuilding and conflict resolution for more than four decades. With  over 6000 alumni from more than 130 countries, UPEACE stands as a unique and dynamic center for fostering dialogue, research  and innovative approaches to addressing today’s most pressing global challenges.

UPEACE Somalia

Recognizing the country’s immense potential but pressing need for peacebuilding expertise, UPEACE Somalia was established in 2018, introducing tailored degree programmes and professional certificate courses designed to foster leadership in key areas such as governance, environmental resilience and conflict transformation. Since then, the Somalia programme has produced hundreds of graduates who have significantly contributed to the public sector, civil society and local communities. Our alumni of Somali leaders have been instrumental in improving service delivery, promoting good governance and supporting initiatives that strengthen societal resilience in Somalia, serving as catalysts for positive change.

The UPEACE mission goes beyond the classroom

UPEACE higher degree courses empower students to explore the root causes of conflict and formulate practical, context-specific strategies for sustainable peace. Through interdisciplinary coursework that combines governance, environmental sustainability, human rights and social innovation, students gain the skills and insights needed to tackle complex issues affecting human and global well-being.

The UPEACE Experience is Transformative

It emphasizes experiential learning, critical thinking, and a holistic understanding of peace processes. Whether through immersive fieldwork, collaborative projects, or cross-cultural exchanges, students emerge with not only the knowledge but also the confidence and resilience required to navigate an increasingly interconnected and unpredictable world. This unique approach equips graduates to become ethical, empathetic, and effective leaders in both the public and private sectors.
