When the Somali President, H E Hasan Sheikh Mohamoud, was awarded his UPEACE Doctoral Degree in 2022, he announced 100 PhD scholarships to increase education, peace-keeping and development capacity in Somalia.
With generous funding from the Qatar Charity in Somalia, the first 40 scholarships were awarded to specially assessed students at a ceremony held in the Presidential compound, January 2024.
The key objective of the prestigious scholarships is to transform higher education leadership institutions in Somalia by equipping them with doctoral skills, enhancing local research and academic development.
The PhD scholarship courses that have been made available through the Presidential Scholarship are
- Leadership and Sustainable Development
- Land Degradation and Desertification
- Blue Economy and Maritime Security
- Peace, Governance and Development
